Summer vacation has commenced in Chez Kati-and-family. The kids are enjoying their freedom and looking forward to doing as many outdoor activities as humanely possible before school starts up again.

Um. Yeah.

Pls send help.

Beer and chocolate is preferred. Smallville and/or Tom happenings are also good 'care package' ideas.

I've also finished watching Obscura in the Great Rewatch project, but the English class I'm taking this summer is kinda killing my ability to meta at the moment. Hopefully I can write up something once S1 is over.

I've only seen it once, and this is a 'by the seat of my pants' reaction, so if I missed things or got something wrong, it's okay to let me know. It's just that I have to get what I'm thinking down on paper somewhere so I don't continue to stew.

I cannot believe the cojones of some people. Yesterday, several of the publicity people at WB/CW were tweeted by a small group of so-called fans in an effort to get a spoiler source fired. [ profile] duskwillow has a good run up here, and I agree with pretty much everything she said. I've been debating speaking up all morning, because I do have Chlark and Chlois friends, but what was done yesterday is so unbelievable I don't feel right not saying something about it. So here goes:

Trying to get a real person fired from their real life job over a fictional television show based on a comic book whose romantic end game has been known for seventy years is one of the stupidest, most vicious stunts I have ever seen in my life. I've seen better behavior from elementary school students, and they don't have years upon years of societal training to know that's a crappy thing to do.

Did your parents not teach you right from wrong? Seriously? Everyone has a right to their own opinion, I absolutely believe it. You can hate Chloe, or Lois, or Tess or whoever all you want, and write lots of sub-par fan fiction around whatever pairing you prefer, but the minute your opinion infringes on someone else's life? That's what that thing we like to call common sense is supposed to kick you in the butt and say, "Hey, wait a minute. Is this a really good idea?"

In conclusion: Your mama did not raise you right if you think that getting someone fired over a tv show because the plot isn't going your way is a productive use of your time.

And to make things clear for my flist - here is where I stand on Smallville shipping in general.

Ship: Clark/Lois, Clark/Dinah, Oliver/Dinah, Oliver/Lois, Lois/Tess, and Chloe/George.

Don't ship: Clark/Chloe, Clark/Lex (just can't make myself slash them, sry), or Chloe/Oliver.

But I don't mind discussing the show, or ships in general, with people who actually watch it and want intelligent debate. If you come here looking for trouble, I have no problem telling you to go find another playground.

So lets all try to be polite and stop making the entire fandom look like loons.

Because I keep forgetting to do this, and the news out of Chitown today makes me nervous for my beloved Cubbies.

CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs, whose 101-year title drought is the longest in American sport, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday in a move to help the Major League Baseball team's ownership change. full story here

I don't know if this means they're taking the team away from Wrigley, or what, but I'm gonna be on pins and needles until the new owners reveal their plans (Stay at WRIGLEY, people. Just sacrifice a damn goat or something).

The kittens left on Saturday and I miss the one nicknamed Lois. She was so lovely and loving.

And speaking of Lois, I am psyched over the new season of Smallville so far, even though there was less Clark than usual in the first two eps, like I've seen mentioned on other journals. But he's so Supermanly these days, I'm quietly squeeing like the crazy DC fangirl I am.

In regards to the other cast, Lois is awesome, and I think she's supposed to be going overboard on the Blur worship because she doesn't have another outlet for how she feels about Clark.

Oliver continues to head towards rock bottom. He's not quite there yet, because I think he's still in denial about his actions at the end of last season (and still waiting for a real apology to Big Blue there, Arrow. If not, I hope Dinah kicks your ass) and since Clark is running circles around him in regards to being a hero and a stand-up guy, I can wank his behavior as jealous. Especially around Lois, who isn't "busting his chops" anymore in a girlfriend capacity.

Chloe ... she's winning me back just a little, due to her interaction with Emil, who is kind enough to bring up problems he sees with some of her behavior. And I think they'd almost make a cute couple.

Zod! Callum makes me love Zod more and more every time he's on screen. I can't wait for his first encounter with Clark. And Tess rocked her scenes. As a long time Highlander, I can never get enough of swordplay, especially when sexy women wield them.

I'm currently trying to debate (over on TWoP) the released photos of the deleted Chlark scene in "Injustice" , where Clark finds Chloe in the bathtub, turns off the water, and wraps a towel around her.

On the surface, it's obviously something a friend would do. Or, really, anyone who cared about people. Chloe seems to be displaying worrying behavior, even if it actually isn't her, and as her BFF, Clark should do something about it. Apparently from a Chlark-shipping perspective, it is the most romantic thing evah, and everything about it is tinged with UST, which admittedly I don't see. Basically, what I understand Chlarkers are saying is that Clark is only doing this because he's secretly in love with Chloe.

Am I understanding that right? Clark only does Supermanly or caring stuff because he's secretly in love with whoever he's helping? Because that can apply to every single person he's saved, or been a friend to on this show. Or the entire world, in general.

Fandom, I love you. Really. But please stop making my head hurt.

A year ago today my grandfather died. He was the grandparent I was closest to, we shared the same birthday, he was crazy about duct tape and saving money and I miss him like crazy.

So if I concentrate on just a few threads over the next few days, I'm sorry but those are the headvoices easiest for me. If I haven't tagged in general by Wednesday or Thursday, go ahead and poke me in here and I'll try and get my butt in gear.

Freedom took a very bit hit yesterday when Bush signed the Commissions Act of 2006. I forced myself to read through it and, from what I understand, Bush can now level 'enemy combatant' charges against anyone opposed to his regime - domestic or elsewhere. They can arrest you and put you before a tribunal of their choosing without ever having to show you that pesky "proof".

So does this mean that you have to stay on Bush's good side now in order to avoid being black-bagged(yes a reference from Moore V for Vendetta comic)? Wasn't the Bill of Rights and seperation of powers framed by our Founding Fathers supposed to prevent this from happening?

Of course it was.

But it is the duty of every American to keep an eye on their own goverment. To walk hand in hand with a vigilant press, which is largely absent thanks to a small group of very rich people owning most of the broadcast networks and newspapers nowadays.

Can anyone say Monopoly? Didn't they break up Bell Communications for a similar reason? I could be wrong, of course, and I always welcome comments. Ok, usually welcome comments. Sometimes my snark gets the best of me.

I think I'm going to go mourn a while longer. Peace.

All I can think about as I watch the NSA wire-tappings and the efforts of Congress to pigeonhole immigrants , mostly of the illegal variety, into a nearly sub-human status. There is every indication that the economy may crumble, and who will BushCo blame?

We're almost a fascist country and the line inches closer every day. Come on. Liberals! Wake up and save the country for our children, the poor and downtrodden.
